Nominate an Elder
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING A NOMINATION FOR DEACON:
God guides and leads His people through godly leaders whom He raises up. God established the office of elder for Israel and continued the office in the church (I Kings 12:8; Acts 20:28).
Qualifications for the Office of Elder
1. By virtue of the term elder, the man nominated should not be a new Christian, but mature in the faith. (I Timothy 3:36)
2. The nominee should be well-versed in the Word of God and able to teach it to others. (1Timothy 3:2; 5:17, Titus 1:9)
3. Teaching others includes teaching them the gospel. Therefore those nominated should be experienced at presenting the gospel to those who are lost. (Matthew 28:18-20)
4. Since we are a Presbyterian church, the man nominated should be well versed in Reformed Doctrine and be able to explain it to others.
5. The nominee should have his household in order, meaning that his marriage and family life are pleasing to God. (I Timothy 3:4)
6. The nominee should know his spiritual gifts and presently be involved in ministry at New Springs Church.
7. The nominee should be a member of New Springs Church and have a record of consistency in his church attendance and have been a member of New Springs Church for a minimum of two years.
8. The nominee should understand the philosophy of ministry of New Springs Church as stated in our Mission & Vision and support it wholeheartedly.
9. The nominee should support the senior pastor and staff and have a desire to encourage them in their ministries.
10. The nominee should have a good reputation, morally and ethically, not only in the church, but also in his place of employment and social and recreational life.
11. The nominee should presently be tithing (giving 10%), with at least 85% of the tithe going to the ministries of New Springs Church.
